God has made us to know Him and worship Him (Psalm 86:9). Yet, we have made choices that go against what God says we should do. God has given us a standard to live by, His rules, His laws, yet, we willingly break them. The Bible calls our rebellion against God, sin.
The Bible says: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
Our sin has separated us from our Creator (Isaiah 59:2). Every time we lie, steal, lust, hate, get drunk, fail to worship God, and not do that which is right, we are sinning against God.
Just like if we break the laws in our country there is a consequence, so there is a punishment for our rebellion against God. Sin has a consequence.
The Bible says: “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23) and “the soul who sins shall die” (Ezekiel 18:4). We deserve physical death and also eternal death in Hell because of our sin against the Holy God. Because God is good and loving, He must punish wrongdoing. If He didn’t judge sin, then God would not be good, loving, or just.
This is bad news for us, yet, the Good News is that God in love has done something wonderful that will forgive our sins, and allow us to know our Creator.
